Those on the far right who think that religious leaders should dictate public policy, and public officials should dictate where and how to engage in religious practices (on the public dime, of course), used to say that the absence of homosexuality in nature proved it to be unnatural.
Then, zoologists began finding examples of same-sex behaviors from throughout the animal kingdom, from our closest relatives the bonobos through many other mammal and bird species. So then the religious dictators began accusing those who cited THEIR claims based on nature of trying to make humans no better than animals.
When a pre-determined conclusion dictates your beliefs, I suppose the evidence can always be twisted to prove whatever you want.
In the long run, it is personal freedom to choose that must prevail.
