Critics of our party are correct, Republicans have put themselves in this position by being exclusionary, not inclusionary.
But, try being pro-choice, anti-abortion, or pro gay rights at a Republican convention or representing Republican women. You'd think there was a plague in the room on the loose and they might catch it (sorta like how we viewed AIDS in the 80's).
Just Saturday, I received a "survey" from the RNC to "determine" and rate our President's progress. AND, oh by the way, if you want us to win in 2012 and forward OUR agenda, please give generously, because it is the right thing for our country.
But the manner in which the "survey" was worded, it was clear which answer they wanted the recipient to choose.
I am very sensitive to the Nazi implications, Papa was "recruited" to serve in the SS just as his Jewish neighbors and his father's business partner disappeared. They escaped the country the first time between the wars mainly because they didn't approve of the direction Hitler was taking the country. Rather than resist, they left, only to return to the devastation left afterward.
We are still looking for a sister who also disappeared and never was able to escape with the family.
I'm not saying the Republicans are Nazis either, I'm just saying they are using tactics that say either you are with us or you are against us, un-American, anti-marriage, a baby killing advocate, and everything else we aren't.
I must admit, our family history is one of the reasons we were so caught off guard when the nephew joined the marines right out of high school for a war none of us supported.
Papa turned in his grave...
